Went to see this flick with group of friends - we were 9 of us totally - and the large number of us turned out to be a totally good thing (especially the loud laughing 3 or 4 who kept the rest of us going).

I knew nothing of the movie beforehand except that it was a comedy starring Jack Black - and since I haven’t seen a single Jack Black movie that I haven’t enjoyed, I was looking forward to it in a way.

I think the script writers of this movie are some brilliantly funny dudes who must have been on dope the whole time while they were writing the script - so ridiculous stupid is the movie. So nonsensical.

At times I wasn’t sure where to be flat out annoyed at it’s blatantly ridiculous stupidity, at others I was laughing out loudly. In retrospect, whatever I may say, I have to give it this - it’s unique!

I recommend you go in a large group of friends like we were or perhaps you’ll just find it ridiculous.

Whoever thought of this nonsense ought to be awarded the Critics Dopey Award. Definitely.

  1. I wouldn’t recommend Be Kind Rewind for someone unfamiliar with Michel Gondry’s works. He’s an eccentric talented director and screenwriter and his movies/videos are more about bending visual perceptions than the script.

One of his most famous videos is Star Guitar by Chemical Brothers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws_R_GxZX2o

The whole thing was shot in one day over 4 trips on the train and he visually cut it to match the beat of the song. If you noticed in Be Kind Rewind, the final ‘movie’ they make is also visually cut in an interesting way.

  2. It’s just bad execution, though I don’t know if the directoris to be blamed for it.. i mean the idea like you said was unique and perhaps that’s what prompted everyone to go ahead and try and make a movie.. I really liked the idea..wouldn’t mind doing something similar myself..oh wait.. already have.. aap ka kasoor hehe..

  3. i so wanted to go and watch this movie - but ended up watching Ghatothkach!! We didnt watch this movie because my friends had not heard of this movie - how ridiclious is that!! I will go and watch the movie, alone!! :)

  4. i must watch this movie…i like non-sensical movies

  5. @ Pras: Well I was “unfamiliar with Michel Gondry” as you put it, before I saw this film. It wasn’t too bad, but mainly because of the company. Hence I recommended it best watched in a large group. Welcome to TVIMH :) Cya around!

@ Maneesh: After the movie all of us wanted to make our own little films too! Welcome to TVIMH :) Cya around!

@ Moksh: Too bad for you! I think it is best watched with others. Maybe you can have another special viewing for you & other bloggers :)

@ Apurva: lol.. then you’ll *love* this one! Welcome to TVIMH :) Cya around!

  6. Michel Gondry IS the dope!

    I rest my case.
