After the chilliest winter that Mumbai’s faced in the longest time, it was bound to happen - Summer is not only fast descending but it is going to be hot, hot, hot.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this on the blog before, but I don’t have a sense of smell - in a city as overcrowded and filthy as ours, I’ve always maintained that it is a good thing! However I can smell something is it’s very strong - so if I smell something I know it’s bad.
I recently had the misfortune of being around one individual who was - and I mean seriously - wreaking with body odor. This guy was stinking so much, even I could smell it strongly! I felt bad for the guy though because people around him really made fun of him when he was not around - he’s apparently got a regular BO problem - which I don’t think he even is aware of.
So though he doesn’t read my blog (at least I don’t think so) I’ve made a list. It’s written mostly for men since I think most women do these things anyway but if you’re a woman who doesn’t, feel free to apply the list too:
Melody’s TOP 10 Guide, to be STINK FREE this Summer!
(10) EAT RIGHT! - Have you heard the saying: what goes in determines what comes out? Yeah, I’m talking BO caused by what you’re eating - or not. Check with your doctor if you have a Zinc or Magnesium deficiency - these supplements help balance your body’s metabolism and reduce the cause of bad odor. Maybe BO is just a pill away! Also while you’re at it take your vitamins (ok, so I’m feeling all motherly at this point)

(09) Wear Cottons and materials that ‘breathe’ - Synthetic fabrics don’t allow the body to breathe. If you’re not sure which of your clothes are cotton, check the labels (yup, that’s one of the reasons they’re there honey).

(08) Tight is not always right - This is because loosely fitting clothes allow the body to breathe better than tight clothes by allowing perspiration to escape.

(07) Wash your clothes after wear - while you may not need to throw your jeans to wash after every use, it’s definetely good to throw tshirts and shirts to wash after using them, especially in our summers!

(06) Shower regularly: That means DAILY people!! While we should do our best to conserve water, it is my recommendation to shower mornings before going to work (bacteria breeds over our body while we sleep at night) and also before going out anywhere in the evenings especially if you’re using public transport. If you can, take a steam bath as it will help with overall detoxification, besides making you feel wonderful after!

(yes I know it’s a nice pic)
(05) Carry an extra shirt in your bag: This is a great tip for any of you who have to go out directly from work. Use the loos at your office and besides washing your face - wash your underarms with SOAP, even shaved underarms need to be washed! - apply fresh deo - and then change into new shirt. Remember, it’s better to wear a crumpled shirt then to stink.

(04) SHAVE YOUR UNDERARMS: Seriously men, there’s nothing macho about hairy underarms and all it does it help bacteria collect and breed 24/7 and cause BO.

(03) While we’re talking about Shaving, how about Shaving those Chests too? Hairy chests are so completely out of fashion and are just - scary imo!! Most actors and models on the runway shave their chests. Even our Bollywood biggies like Salman Khan, John Abraham and SRK all shave before baring their abs. Kudos to Akshay Kumar who was hairy scary before, but now has started shaving his chest (phew!). Most Men’s parlors also offer waxing, though if you’ve never done it before be warned, it’s gonna hurt!
(02) AXE does have a good effect! and so do most deos you can pick up! Be environmentally conscious and make sure it has a CFC free label which ensures it’s not depleting our ozone layer. Make sure you WASH WELL before putting / re putting deo, you don’t want to make new “odor mixed with spray” scents!

Hehe.. good post. I used to ‘wear’ perfume/deo before but these days, I take a bath (or twice a day) and I fell that’s perfect. No extra addendum.
** I know this comment stinks but no other way to tell that this is a good post.

Hmmm… A friend and I debated whether girls like hairy chests or not. The discreet poll that we carried out proved me right. They like hair. I sent this link to him as a consolation.

hey melody !!! is there any problem if I say I never use a soap in my bath.
this is because I have a thinking that if you just rub your skin well with water it will do great and other thing is that when I use any soap i got pimples instantly .
What you have to say …

And no, I do not agree about Akshay Kumar with being “bloody hell delicious”, it creeps me out to even see the pic!
@ Slo: Would you know, I’m actually thinking about it
@ Meetu: Thanks girl! Knew *someone* would understand!!
@ Mario: Would agree with you wholeheartedly - then I saw the ‘?’ - you not sure about that?!
@ Amit: No siree-bob - who said “men are supposed to be hairy”?!! What are in a bad porno flick from South India? Or in the pre-evolution ape days?!
@ Rahul: Well, let’s hope it improves! I’m doing my best here to spread the word! Talk about being benevolent

@ Sam: erm, ok!
@ Sonia: lol
I don’t think no Taxiwala is going to be reading TVIMH, but still, let’s hope some ppl change after reading this - even if one does, it’s still worth it!
And welcome to TVIMH
Cya around!
@ Vij: er Hon, no. Trust me, no, no, no, no. No.
@ Saritha: lol.. Yeah some of them do. I still think though that that’s better than hairy chests! Sigh.
@ Sam: eeeyewww… what sort of women have you been hanging out with??! Disgusting
@ I never use soap: There are lots of other cleansers you can use which will be milder than soap. Check with a dermatologist. Water is good, but cleansers help the cleaning process & speed it up too (try washing an oily dish with only water, it’ll happen to an extent, but cleansers do it well & faster).
