Remember the Richard Gere kisses Shilpa Shetty (on the cheek) controversy?
null
Remember the protests in Varanasi and other parts of the country by people who thought it was “Indecent”, “Obscene” and “Vulgar”? Varanasi saw possibly the most widespread protests with Shilpa “fans” burning effigy of Gere at Luxa crossing.
Remember some protesters even marching down streets with posters saying “Death to Shilpa Shetty”?
I remember.
And it still continues to make me cringe. The depths that politicians will sink to. The molehill “issues” (& this one wasn’t even an issue to start with!) which are made into mountains.
Surely we have better things to protest against, better things to work together towards?
The Varanasi protests (as well as all the protests in different parts of the country) were organised by (several) political parties - was it all just political? Or were anyone’s feelings really hurt?
Are these the type of “issues” you think political parties in India should be paying heed to?
