I have a cousin-in-law (my favorite one!) to whom I’m much obliged. Among other things he generously does for me, he also makes it a point to dispense of all his Time magazines at my house (with free home delivery too!).

That being said, you know why I’m talking about the ‘Time 100 Most Influential People in the World’ almost a month after the issue was released.

The list of 100 people who have “shaped our world” in the last year includes various people throughout the world, who’ve been fitted into the following categories:

* Artists & Entertainers
* Scientists & Thinkers
* Leaders & Revolutionaries
* Builders & Titans
* Heroes & Pioneers

Out of the 100, I was highly ashamed to realize I had only even heard of 30. And even of the 30 I didn’t know all there was to know about them.

So I’ve taken it upon myself, to learn all about these people - and the people who wrote about their mini-bios for Time (all had related people, eg: Sonia Gandhi had Suketu Mehta write about her, probably because of the Indian angle).

My plan is to learn about one of the 100 every three days, along with the writer of the bio - a new online learning project for me!

So in the next 300 days, I’ll have learned about 200 people who obviously have a great enough impact on the world to be featured in the Time 100 of 2007. And by then, I’ll be ready for the 2008 list :)

Would have ended this post here, but noticed something interesting - the TIME cover that I hold in my hand is different from the image you see in the post here, which I got from the Time’s online site.

The difference?

The one in my hand shows Sonia Gandhi in the bottom left corner instead of Tyra Banks. Hmmm!

  1. Tyra Banks.. Sonia Gandhi..whats the difference eh?!!
    (lol)

  2. TIME covers are frequently localised to maximise circulation. For e.g. when Sania Mirza made it to the mag, her photo was on the cover only in the versions which hit India

  3. @ Perspective Inc: lol… erm…

    @ Ravi: Yeah, I guessed that. In the Indian cover Lakshmi Mittal is also in the place of the lady above Al Gore. But it was amusing anyway, lol!

  4. *gasp*

    I was in a similar situation a few days back, and I decided to quench my thirst by reading a wikipedia article every week.

    I now know what precisely happened in WW2 - and that Zui Quan is an ancient martial art where one imitates the motions of a drunkard.

    looking forward to the people profiles.. whos on first?

  5. @ v: Tina Fey. And done already :)

    And totally lol to your wiki adventures!
