… well, not on a daily basis, can’t afford that. But I did don my new Prada jeans for the red carpet premier of ‘The Devil wears Prada’ in Mumbai last night.

The invitations came along with the ‘very prestigious’ ‘Runway Magazine’. And yes, it was fun to go through it and read all the tid-bits on fashion and the high life.

It was a night to remember, models, actors, beautiful people all around enjoying the movie that possibly describes many of their lives to some degree of accuracy.
A friend of mine in the US asked me when I returned - so what were you doing there among all the models, actors & beautiful people? I answered - “I’m just one of the nobodys who’re invited to make the models looks more modelesq” … True dat!

The pics from my cell phone unfortunately haven’t come out too well, but trust me, that’s not a problem, there were enough of cameras - photo & video - to fill a small country. LOTS and lots of press!
(Caveat: Rest of this post possibly contains spoilers)
The movie itself was fabulous. When I read the book I was dissapointed at the ending - I thought one of the main characters (Miranda Priestly, played superbly by Meryl Streep) wasn’t allowed to grow & there wasn’t any depths shown. Away with all that in the movie! It subtley but surely shows shades of depth in Miranda’s character. Anne Hathway looks great and pulls off another ‘Princess Diary’esq role - frog turns into gorgeous Gabbana wearing princess.
There were tons of differences between the book and the movie - and most of them for the better. Two entire dialogues which take place in the movie aren’t even in the book - and imo are pivotal parts of the movie’s plot - the first in which Miranda explains how fashion affects everyone (FABULOUS, loved this!) and the second was how Nigel tells Andy (Hathaway’s character) a few ‘truths’. Whoever wrote the screenplay did a brilliant job, taking the best from the book, changing the bad & adding in some amazing lines.
On a totally different note, if you love fashion, if you’re into sexy, fabulous, awesomely great looking clothes - you HAVE TO go see this movie. It’s fast paced (no long song with frog changing into princess), sensible (pretty reality based) and completely entertaining.

@ Akshay: I have no clue what the devil wears. Haven’t met him, don’t plan too. As for dear simple me, I once in a blue moon (didn’t you know we had a blue moon last night?) wear Prada. Feels good too

So, who are these alleged famous people in the last two pics?
September 15th, 2006 at 9:34 am
whoa! is that Sheetal (Malhar)you’re standing with? She’s my favourite model.
… And just out of curiousity, how much does a pair of Prada cost, Mel?

@ Swb: Yes it’s Sheetal. She happens to be close friends with a friend of mine. I think she’s an amazing model but more than that - she’s SUCH a nice person. You know when she posed for these pics with me, she actually bent down a it so she wouldn’t tower over small me… too bad that didn’t work either, lol…
@ Harsha: lol to Jayaprada
About the cost of a pair of Prada jeans - I wouldn’t know - it was a gift from a certain unnamed person **** Got it in the beginning of the year, but somehow didn’t wear it. Then when I got invited for this show I thought, I know just the thing to wear! lol.
If you want to get blown out of your mind though - I sure was - go to Moschino (In the Taj Mahal, it’s opposite Burberry) they sell dresses at INR 95,000/- etc!!! I sure do not belong to the category of people who can buy stuff like that!
