I have found the remedy! If you are tiring of living in the Mumbai of present, then you must take a journey back in time to the Bombay of old!
I spend the day in South Bombay with a close girlfriend - doing what close girlfriends do - shopping, eating, browsing, shopping, talking, talking, talking ![]()
Had lunch in Cafe Churchill (Pollo Valdostana, what else? And yes, loved it as usual). Have already reviewed it here.

Took a lovely loooong walk on the Colaba sea face, enjoying the old architechture, the water & the cleanest air Bombay can offer (which is not saying much, but let’s not get choosy here).

I love the Taj & the walk upto the Taj - seeing the Gateway to India looming larger than life in the background.

No matter what your preferences are wrt five star hotels in Mumbai - you must admit no other hotel in Bombay can even come close to the grandeur that is the Taj Mahal Palace & Towers.

Had a lovely day & couldn’t have asked for any better way to rekindle my love for this lovely city I call home!
And yes came back to the present by ordering Pizza (lol to living in the past, I wouldn’t survive without my junk food!) for a very special girly night with another gf whom I’ve not caught up with for the longest time. I am so blessed to be surrounded by the best friends a girl could ask for.

Sounds like fun. I’ve never gone on a trip with a girlfriend like that but since I live with four girls I guess it doesn’t matter. =P

@ Ams: Hey girl… nice to see ya after a long time! Yeah with 4 girls I’m sure everyday of yours is like this one of mine, lol.
I used to room with 2 girls for about 2 years. It was great fun but I’m not sure I’d want to do that ever again. Am very into my space. Though I suppose I’ll make way when Mr. Perfect comes along.

I can never forget the years I spent living at P. D’Mello Road as a kid. That to me was and will always be the real Bombay … before everyone started moving to the suburbs. You know Mel, my dad was getting a place in Bandra in the early-eighties for 75,000 bucks, but they couldn’t find it in themselves to leave Fort area! And what a vibrant place it was - Goa Street, Karvar Street, Kumta Street was where it was all happening … now all you’ll find is offices of shipping companies. Then there was the Cathedral at Wodehouse … something about that place you just can’t explain. Anyway, let me not go on too long. Nice pics … you look lovely (as always!). *tight hug*

black and white pics of Mumbai…city looks better in B&W…it gives a sort of historical look
Read ur post on books….”Road less travelled” is one of my favorite books. Infact i have written a quote from the book on the first page of my pocket diary…”what we are and what we are not responsible for in this life is one of the greatest problem of human existence”….I luved the chapter about “falling in luv”…i also repeated a poem by Kahil Gibraan in the book on my blog
Even i didnt like “Alchemist”…will recommend two books which i hav read recently….”The Namesake” by Jhumpa Lahiri and “world is flat” by Thomas Freidman…Happy reading

Heyyyyy, this is awesome. Beauuutiful pics really. And the b/w effect really accentuates the journey back in time.
The city is changing
(Sigh) I yearn for the good ol’ days - the summer of ‘92 and all that… (look at me, talkin’ like a grandpa :P

@ Swb: Hey thx for sharing some of your life with us… Something we have in common - I totally love Cathedral. When they redid it some (ten-ish?) years ago, I used to sit in wonder looking all around wishing someday I could get married there, lol!
Thx for the ‘(as always)’ - think this is a particularly terrible pic of me, but thx!
@ Sherriff: Yes you’re right, the city does look lovely in B&W. But then again, this part of the city looks lovely in color too. Am moving half of your comment to the books post.
@ Dev: “Like” a grandpa? I’m sure Aparna & Dharmu will agree there’s no “like” involved, grandpa.

Hey melody,
The pics look classic..
The only reason I will remember the Colaba sea face is when I was not allowed entry in Club Athena as I was a minor and I spent the night sleeping and roaming in the long footpath from athena to gateway..one of my worst days out, felt like a begger..
September 8th, 2006 at 12:47 am
PS: See, used the L word here too
@ Denzil: You were a Minor when Athena was opened??? How young are you??
Geez, I guess I am pretty old compared to most of you. Dev if you’re reading this, shut up.
