I do not rave and rant.

It’s not that I’m an exceptionally calm person. In fact there was a time I was an extremely hotheaded person. Through the grace of God though, am sort of managing that now. In fact 99% of the time, I’m pretty calm.

And the 1% of the time that I lose my head… I shout. I yell. I scream my lungs out. I stomp my legs & fling my arms about. I occasionally also feel like flinging objects about (mercifully haven’t done so though).

But I do NOT rave and rant.

In fact, I did not even use the words “rave and rant” until I accessed the blog world we all are a beloved part of. It’s like it’s the most blog friendly term out here. I don’t think I’ve seen a single blogger who hasn’t used the words rave or rant in his/her blog. And don’ t even mention how many blogs actually have this irritating rr combo as a blog category. And so many as the blog name. It just gets me grrrrrrrrrrr…

Now if I were the raving and ranting type what would I rave and rant about?

I would rave about the fact that I’m an excellent driver. I’d rant about our Mumbai traffic condition. I HATE the way the traffic scene in Mumbai is getting.

(Stuck in another daily jam, I entertain myself by taking pics of myself. Yes, yes, know I’m narcissistic)

For the first time in my life I’m seriously considering leaving this country.

And yes, only because I don’t see the situation getting better.

Every major city in this country has bad roads (most of them dug up or with huge pothole or some other intrinsic problem), is over populated - not just with people but with cars. There’s never any place to park in the city. Pay and Park is a scam - you pay but there’s no taking care of your car - in fact there’s nothing - one of my earlier cars was broken into and the speaker system was totally ripped out. The pay and park attendant just said he was not responsible.

Then there’s all the new cars that are coming into the cities EVERY SINGLE DAY. The roads get worse and the cars increase.

People tell me that once the Bandra-Worli sealink comes up things will be better. NO WAY. Is it going to be better at Lilavati or at reclamation where there’s a 1/2 hour traffic jam at any given time of the day??? It’s just going to get worse for Bandra folk because all unnecessary traffic using the link will now come through it.

And nothing NOTHING is being done about anything.

Unless you count this - ridiculous - sign up outside Siddivinayak Temple. It said “Use Devider”. Huh?

I got out my cam, but I was too late. Never mind, caught this one which says “Use Public Transport - Avoid Traffic Jamming“.

Sorry people, traffic jamming is here to stay. And I’m probably not.

  1. Traffic Jamming eh
They make it sound like a party lol
the only thing that will be jamming is all the cars stuck on the highway to nowhere…

    noojes

    *still laughing*

  2. Are you really going to leave Mumbai?. I thought you were a real hardcore Mumbaiite kinda like those I am proud to be a New Yorker types.

  3. so true.. try goin thru juhu in the evening..
taking pics in a traffic jam .. i do that too ..
but i usually click objects or roads or somthin :P

  4. Have moved to Bangalore from Mumbai…and the traffic is no better here. Think of these jams as development pangs… soon our cites will be world class .. and still have traffic jams !!!
Btw, every time I miss my old life in Mumbai, I read & re -read yr blog! U r the quintessential Mumbai, nay Bandra girl !! (yr blog is soothingly similar to my old life, in fact it’s the life thousands of other Mumbai girls lead..)
Keep at it, yr spreading lots of happiness around!

  5. online after a long time….dont hav time to read…will come again to read….juss checked the pics in last four or five post…the top ur wearing while u went to inorbit maill is juss cool…gr8 colors…that pic juss caught my eye

  6. @ Noojes: lol… and thx, this reminds me I have to call ya!

@ Mario: You’re right I am a hardcore Mumbaiite (actually prefer Bombayite!) - howya guess? I dunno I’ve always been the one trying to convince people to stay back & not leave… That’s why I said this is the very first time I’ve thought of going. It’s like this city is time bomb waiting to go off. I’m scared that there in no planning and there is absolutely no care put in by the govt. In Singapore the govt. actually regulates how many new cars are allowed to be sold in the country. Here no one cares.

Even if the situation was going to stay as is, I’d still hang around. But honestly think this is going to only get worse.

@ somedevil: That’s because you probably don’t look as nice as moi :P

@ Ana: Hey love… I’m just the same like the masses eh?! lol… I know what you’re saying & thanks - I’m glad I can be of help when you’re feeling sad. Here’s another option - CALL ME!!

@ Sherriff: Good to see you after long. Hope you’re doing good!

  7. A way to avoid the traffic jammings and the Deviders is to travel by train ;)

    Thanks for coming over !!

  8. Was in bombay oops Mumbai for 3 days till Independence day and the railways felt the safest thing. Was travelling late at 1 am on the Western railways with my 19 year old cousin sister in the general compartment and it felt so safe with all the cops stationed at every station.

Secondly coming to the matter of traffic jams, I wholly feel people with cars are responsible for all the traffic jams.Look at the two wheelers and ricks, can manoeuvre them anyway and it easily clears messy situations. I will give an example of the place i live in(Madgaon,Goa) where we people love bikes. So one can see loads of bikes on the road but hardly any jamming.

The moment cars(parents coming to collect school kids, office executives) come on the road, the traffic hits a wall. So reduce the cars and see the flow of the traffic. We, in our office try and use common cars or pool them to go for work.We dont even have the convenience of the trains like in bombay.U can get a rick in every corner of bombay ,ok except the south, if u ever need to be on the run. I am more for keeping cars of the road than for blaming all the system considering the system can hardly handle the influx and growth in the city..

  9. Melody dear I need ur help. Cause urs is one of the very few sites I can access from office. Can u please please please mail me the details of ur webhosting guys, the cost for registering the domain and other small big details that u know that are required to host a site. I wanna get blogging and doing lots of other things but with my own site.

  10. sorry,…. i just couldnt help but laugh…
    use devider… nice one…

but where do u plan on going?

  11. I once saw a sign said,
Keep honking and I will make rush hour longer - God!

At least by entertaining yourself you wont hopefully piss God off :)

  12. No offense, When you compare other cities of India with Mumbai (with the exception of Calcutta) I personally think Bombay is a big shi* h*le. By the way, everyone calls Madras Chennai, but when it comes to Bombay, people are not sure if it is Mumbai or Bombay. Why the confusion? I apologize that I have to curse out your city. Once again Mumbai is a big sh*t h*le.

  13. U shud try coming to B’lore once…. :D

And you dont need to worry about using the ‘devider’ here.. people even use the pavement.

  14. @ Ajay: :) You’re most welcome. Thx for the lunch!

@ Denzil: What you say makes sense. Unfortunately I do not travel by public transport if I can avoid it. Blame it on the overcrowed trains, the filthy station or whatever. And I think if you travelled rush hour you’d understand what I mean.

Incidentally, the rail system is already overcrowded in rush hour - imagine what it’ll be like if all the cars were off the road! I propose decreasing the new cars coming into the city and also getting rid of all cars which are, lets say, over ten years old. Will prob solve the pollution problem as well.

On the website thing, you can contact admin(at)webberzone(dot)com

@gps: Np plans on going anywhere as of now. Who knows, I was born here, I may just die here also?! Maybe tommorow too. Was just saying that this is one thing which makes me actually think of leaving.

Will tell the lot of you if that becomes a reality or anywhere near it.

    @ biju: lol, really? lol

@ Rahul: Well I love Bombay and Mumbai despite all the crap. Know what you’re saying, but at the end of the day, it’s home. My dad used to travel a lot & he used to tell me how after long trips he’d fly home and smell the filth at the int’ll airport and say “It’s good to be home”.

lol. Grumbles or not, I love Bombay

And about the Bombay Mumbai thing, the official name is Mumbai but a lot of us Bombaikars still do our own thing. After all, Bombay meri hai, nah?

@ dev: Will def. drop by Bangalore. Pretty Ana’s gonna see to that! Will drop you a line when I do.

  15. Well, do not leave so soon. We have so much to do for our country. Ever small drop of water
is valuable in the ocean no matter where it comes from. Let’s try to give what we can for our
Nation. It may not be possible to reap the benifits in this birth, may be our next generation will envy us.

  16. @ Pradip: Well said prof! Spoken like the true desi we all should be (though perhaps you meant GenNext will thank us - rather than envy - for who indeed would envy this?!)
  17. Have you seen the signs just before you turn to reclamation on your way back from town?

  18. @ Ajay: Actually I haven’t, what does it say?
  19. Cute blog you have! I’ve paused a bit too long on your site, while surfing for something more important.
I’m writing from the US, east coast, darn close to NY city, and tell you what, you’re going to sit in traffic whichever major city you go to! Though we are the “sub-urban folk”, my husband and I have sat in traffic for hours heading to airports in the city.. and if you thought NY city traffic is ridiculous, the west coast is even worse! Hours and hours sitting on the highway! San Jose, CA, I’ve personally seen it!

  20. @ Molly: Damn - and I was actually thinking of moving to New York. Sigh.
  21. Girl, NYC aint much better! The jams there are quite the same with the sole exception being people there dont cut lanes as much as people here do. Its actually the same!

Anyways, i think its time we start voicing our opinion. Sooner or later, it will be hard and something will be done. Gotta start somewhere na.
