Baby Love!

I’ve always had this fascination with twins. Would SOOOOO love to have twins myself (after getting married of course ;) ).

Would ideally like identical twin girls - so I can dress them up exactly alike with coconut trees and ribbons in their hair…. ahhhhhhhh

Fraternal twins - now there’s a dilemma. Double the work and not so much fun - especially if they’re a boy/girl set.

My close friends just had one (two?) of those. And guess who made Godma of the pretty girl? :D

At the Christening

Sarah (my *ahem* first godchild) will be a year soon - which means in less than a year, I’ve been made Godma to two beautiful babies. Considering I’m not even married yet I think that’s quite a lot.

Speed for the Soul

Published by Melody under Sports

The race is on - in every sense of the phrase. I used to be totally Ferrari myself - but after last year - and after cutey Alonso - am pretty divided about Renault & Ferrs.

Schums after Germany

Neck to Neck almost in both Driver and Constructor points:

1 Fernando Alonso - Renault 100
2 Michael Schumacher - Ferrari 89

1 Renault 149
2 Ferrari 139

Only six races to go. All eyes on Hungary now.

As for me - I’m just enjoying the races.

Whazz Up Wit Moi

I’ve been a bad blogger I know…. blame it on the broadband connection that I STILL DON’T have. Yes ppl, I love you’ll so much, I’m blogging through telephone. Mario thx for asking after me, hope some of you others also missed me? hint hint??

Anyway without going into too much detail, will just post a couple of pics from things I’ve recently enjoyed:

Like the day I spent at Inorbit Mall – was great fun; shopped, shopped, shopped!

And ate, ate, ate! There’s a fabulous ‘Nando’s’ in their food court and I couldn’t help myself… ate the Chicken Espetada and also got one of their famous Grilled Chicken Burgers to take home. Yes, with lots of Peri Peri. And then called up my dear in Australia to tell her that she’s no better off than I am ;)

Incidentally the whole trip to Inorbit (meals et al) was a belated birthday gift from someone special… awwww muah muah!

Here’s another fun night I had – a PJ Party with the chicks! Would have posted more pics but this blog is family rated, lol…

Lots of great movies in the city at present, been a tad busy with work last week & this one so planning on checking them out next week, especially Pirates & Over the Hedge. Will do the reviews then, another thing I haven’t done in a while.

Some bad news I received recently – apparently God has given me lots of wisdom that I haven’t been using and so TWO of my wisdom teeth have to go – and since they’re impacted (i.e. below gum level, happens where there’s no more place in one’s mouth for more teeth) I have to do TWO minor surgeries – and since one is pretty bad apparently I don’t even get to do it in one sitting, you guessed right, have to do it TWICE.

On the upside though, I hope this will stop family and friends (humph!) alike from calling me a BIG MOUTH because apparently I haven’t got one, sigh.

Older, Greyer and maybe even a little Wiser!

So apparently it was my birthday on the 14th - *MUAH* to the amateur detective who found out & started the string of wishes in the previous post! Merci to you all.

From the 13th - 16th was at a Fantastic Inner Healing Retreat so the 14th really was very quite compared to usual. I did get a million msgs everytime I put on my cell phone though, lol…

Am planning on having a good year ahead - have already made my mind up about doing a lot of things - and not doing a lot of things.

And BEFORE YOU ASK - wasn’t hiding away from a party - am definetely on to go celebrate - let me know how many of you would like to make it & when!

Thx again all!

Superman in the midst of Bombay’s Bomb Blasts

Published by Melody under Current Events, Get Inspired!, Issues

I would have liked to review “Superman Returns” that I watched at the IMAX Dome on Monday night. I would have liked to talk about how absolutely gorgeous Brandon Routh is, how delicious his eyes are, how similar he looks to Christopher Reeve (which to me is obviously the prime reason he got the part).

I would have liked to comment on the defacing of Bal Thackeray’s wife’s statue on Sunday. How something comparatively trivial like that can make the Shiv Sena rile so many people into committing unbelievable acts of vandalism, destroying so much property, injuring so many people and creating so much havoc. How instead of trying to diffuse the situation, the RSS created more communal disharmony by stating (TOI) that incidents like these are caused because of the Muslim community and because churches were built by the Portuguese and we should get India back to being a land for the Hindu.

On Monday there were so many things I would have liked to say, to comment upon, to rant about.

But Tuesday has left me, and everyone in the whole of Mumbai city, a different human being.

The people of Mumbai suffered yet another grave tragedy, one which was so eerily reminiscent of the tragedy on 12th March ‘93. Then, 13 bombs strategically placed all over the city went off one after the other leaving people in a state of confusion and panic. This time it was 8 bombs on the busiest railway line, the Western Railway during peak hours, just when everyone was returning home tired after another long day’s work.

I got to hear of today’s blasts through a phone call before the lines got jammed. I sat with my mum and watched, our hands shaking ever so slightly as we changed from one TV channel to the next, as the blasts increased in number from 3 to 4 to 5 and so on until it numbered 8. We watched in horror the bloodstained compartment walls of the blown up railway stations. We stared in compassion and anguish at the ones who had been injured, blood flowing freely out of their head, legs, everywhere; the repeated footage doing nothing to ease our angst.

Hundreds had died. More who had been injured and possibly would succumb to those injuries…

The tragedy of today’s bomb blasts has left everyone in our city of Mumbai shaking. There are so many questions, so much pain, so little sense to it all.

And yet through the insanity of it all, there is one small ray of hope – the reaction of the people, the common man of Mumbai.

The common man found the strength to call his family and friends and warn them about the situation before the lines got jammed. The common man got out of his home and helped those who were injured, bleeding, many whose limbs had been blown up. Each TV channel had a different set of people at the railway station all saying the same thing – the railway staff & the police may not have come to their rescue, but the common man did.

If you asked me on Monday who the new Superman was, I would have said “Brandon Routh”. Ask me today and this is what I’ll tell you:

* Superman is the man who got bed sheets from his train-side slum home and carried half-dead first class passengers into ambulances.

* Superman is the man who didn’t realize his own bloodstained shirt while he helped his other more seriously injured fellow travelers.

* Superman is the man who stood on the roads in the dark partially rainy night and offered water and biscuits to people stranded in hours of jammed road traffic.

* Superman is the man who donated blood at the hospitals.

* Superman is the man who rushed to do anything, everything, for anyone he saw. He wasn’t wondering what community the injured were from… he subconsciously realized that there was no distinction between Hindu or Muslim or Catholic or Parsi; that all lives are equally important.

In the movie ‘Superman Returns’ the character Lois Lane wins a Pulitzer Prize for her article titled “Why the World doesn’t need Superman”.

I’ll tell you why Mumbai doesn’t – because the Common Man on the Road in Mumbai is Superman.

If any city can get over the tragedies we have faced one after another, be it natural disasters, politically created disharmony or brutal acts of terrorism, we can.

We can Mumbai. We’re a city of Supermen.

Edited, 12th July, the day after:
* My heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Jitendra Nagar, Taj Land’s End, Engineering Manager whose life was lost in one of the blasts.

* I also thank my close friend K. Battiwala of Yashmun Engineers Ltd. – when I spoke to him today morning I found out that he had already sent nearly 100 people from his company to donate blood.

I was so touched and inspired by his initiative that I spoke to my boss and got our company to encourage everyone to do the same & offered a small monetary incentive to each of our employees who give blood. I’ve also called up a couple of other friends who own their own businesses to encourage employees to donate blood. I believe each of us can make a difference in our own way if we try – do try.

On Headbutts, Sexy Butts & “But Why??”s

Published by Melody under Sports

So the Fifa world cup is FINALLY over. Life can go back to normal. No more fighting for the channel to be put on anything but ESPN. No more watching sexy men take out their shirts at the end of the match (remember Figo & Zidane? oohh). No more Christiano, sigh.

The newspapers called yesterday “Super Sports Sunday” and I don’t blame them. Federer was all smiles last night at Wimbeldon though Nadal played unbelievably second set onwards. Think Nadal is the cuter of the two but was supporting Feds anyway (esp after Paris) so was happy with the outcome. And the jacket :)

And what can one say about the FIFA world cup final… that Shakira knows to shake her butt? Undoubtedly. That Zidane knows to headbutt?

#&^&#*$ #*&^*$#^*&#^$ @#$*^@^@$

I somehow just knew they’d not score anymore… I knew it’d come to penatly kicks. I knew the Buffon would perform.

But I did not know the idiot ass Zidane would chose to headbutt his way out of the finals. WHAT IN GOD’S EARTH WAS THE ASS THINKING????

Guess he wasn’t thinking. So the Italians are probably still rejoicing. And deservedly so. Good going.

And les blues, please teach yer boys a thing or two in anger management.

Incidentally, for all my regulars, my net is STILL not up. Don’t even Ask. Decided to get into a cyber cafe & reply to all your comments though, am blog cold-turkeying. Will hopefully swing around your places soon. Till then, take care!

‘Lo Ppl!

It’s another week and my internet is still down. I wish I could sit & reply to each of your comments & check out your blogs like I usually do, but it’s crazy to sit at office and do all that… was so much easier from home!

Anyway, let’s hope one way or the other to have any inty connection this week (may go in for Iquara as suggested by many) will def. swing by all your blogs & read the tagged post (am so dying to do that!)

The weekend was SUPER!

Enjoyed the England v/s Portugal match (though I was routing for England) at Olive. The place was alive with crazy fans was ooohing and ahhhing everytime Crouch or anyone midly even got near the D.

As you can see, I was wearing the official jersey (& sexy short skirt, though not visible in pic) and was told to take it off (!!!) after England lost, hmmm!! Had a totally dumb blonde moment when this girl I met asked me which team I was supporting! Seriously!!!

Enjoyed more junk food after that - am out of control, have decided to completely stop junking out until the 14th of July - two weeks to clear my system :)

Spent waaaaay too much time in the rain yesterday after a long breakfast at Crepe Station. The floods are really taking their toll on everyone. Praying that 26th July 05 doesn’t repeat itself.

Click to enlarge this pic of the supposed Queen of the Suburbs under water:

Haven’t seen Superman yet, but believe the IMAX experience was great, plan to do that sometime this week. Will sign off now. Those of you who have inty connections, thank God for it.
