Melody on October 7th, 2005

Today, October 7th, is the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Though religiously inclined all my life, it was not until about 4 years ago that I begun understanding & meditating on the rosary with a deep and meaningful love.

The purpose of the rosary is to help us meditate on the great mysteries of our salvation. The main focus is on Jesus—his birth, life, death and resurrection. (from American Catholic.org)

One can use the rosary both for meditative prayer (as mentioned above) & intercessory prayer. I mainly use it for the latter & pray for all my loved ones, all those who ask for my prayers and all those who perhaps need them.

I praise God for the beautiful gift of Mother Mary to us. And I thank our Mother for her continous intercession for us her children!

If you are Catholic & so inclined, do say the rosary today - or perhaps just one Our Father & three Hail Marys right now from your computer seat itself, and thank the Lord for all the blessings He’s given you.

God bless you all!

  1. I thought the whole October is dedicated to the rosary prayers. Didn’t know about this particular date. (yeah!)

  2. Jo, you’re correct. To quote Pope John Paul II (from the link I left):

“October is the month in which Mary Most Holy, Queen of the Holy Rosary, is venerated. Within the current international context, I invite all — individuals, families, communities — to pray this Marian prayer, possibly every day, for peace, so that the world can be preserved from the wicked scourge of terrorism”
