Freakin…..!!!!!!!!!!

Published by Melody under Sports

UNbelievable! I think this babe is just so freakin’ amazing!!!

Seriously don’t know what’s with the long dangly earrings (& the other 2 small ones & the chain & the medallion - though I like the nose ring) - but who gives a CRAP???????

First Mashona Washington (USA) & now Maria Elena Camerin (ITA) down…

Don’t know if she’ll win or lose her next match (Marion Bartoli - FRA )but know this - the babe’s already done our country proud.

More where this is coming from please.

September 02, 11pm: Just finished watching Sania demolish Bartoli (yipee!!) - she plays like a hawk. Only problem is that she makes waaaaay too many unforced errors. Chances are experienced players like Maria Sharapova (who’s most likely to win her 3rd round match & play Sania next) will finish her off quickly… Still as I said, Sania’s already done our country proud…

Please sir, can I have some more?

Bakras & Bindaas Babes…

Had dinner at Ming Yang at the Taj Land’s End. I really like Ming Yang (though I don’t go often since I’m not very big on Chinese food) and once even organised a party for a friend there. Anyway had to take my darling Aju out, so decided on MYs.

But first for some Bakra-giri… :O)

Told the idiot we were going to Jimme’s Kitchen (yeah right) because I was short on cash & though it was a small place it was not really all that bad…

The need for speed…

It’s been a crazy three days…

When the cats (read as ‘parents who do not allow pet daughter on motorbike’) are away, the mice (read ‘pet daughter who loves speed & big bikes’) are at play… And boy are they EVER!!!

Thursday night was crazeee… took off with the wind in my hair (yes, it totalled my gorgeous hair) and there was no stopping us. We originally decided to go to Powai Lake, then decided to do it through Aarey Milk Colony - which is a proverbial ghost movie scene in the middle of the night.

There were a couple of unexplained things that happened - like the stones that were thrown - with no one around - on two occasions… (twilight zone indeed) After hours of crazy riding got really hungry & ended up having a really late dinner at the Domestic Airport, pretty good, may try the International next time…

Robertson V/S Robertson

It’s not surprising when an evangelist decides to make a comment which directly opposes one of the Ten Commandments (#6, based on Exodus 20:13 “Thou shalt not kill”), that the universal church of Christians rise up in arms.

Mr Pat Robertson made his controversial remarks amid tense diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Washington. On Monday’s (Aug 22) edition of the 700 Club (a show I myself watch quite regularly) Robertson said:

You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it… It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a war … and I don’t think any oil shipments will stop.

President Chavez is a regular critic of the US, which regards Venezuela as a possible source of instability in the region. Mr Chavez has accused Washington of conspiring to topple his government and possibly backing plots to assassinate him. US officials have called the accusations ridiculous. Mr Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition of America and a former presidential candidate, accused the United States of failing to act when Mr Chavez was briefly overthrown in 2002.

Now of course, hours after the remarks that sparked all the controversy, Robertson has apologized:

Is it right to call for assassination? … No, and I apologize for that statement. I spoke in frustration that we should accommodate the man who thinks the U.S. is out to kill him.

So, what is my take on all this?

I believe that Pat Robertson is a good man & a good teacher. Like many of us however, he let his emotions get the better of him that day when he made the comments he did.

I too talk a bit too much (have always been taken to task for this) and very often afterwards have regretted saying something I did.. “just how could I have said that??”

At the end of the day, Pat Robertson made a mistake. And though we do not condone it or advocate what it suggests, we must forgive him.

And it is important that while we forgive him, we learn a lesson from this - that people who stand on public platforms - and ESPECIALLY to preach the gospel of Christ, be very very careful of their every word.

As St James in his epistle (Chapter 3) says:

1 … remember that we preachers will be judged with greater strictness. 2 We all make mistakes of all kinds…

It would be well with us all (starting with me!) that we choose our words wisely and with the knowledge that God records every word you say and will some day call you to account for every careless, thoughtless, unkind and unchristian comment (Matthew 12:36)

While that thought usually scares me, it’s also well to remember (& yes Pat, this one’s for you) that God also knows our hearts. So when we say something that’s perceived in another way we intended, or we mistakenly make a boo-boo, God will understand…

At the end of the day, we’re not called to judge Pat Robertson (woe to us, how much more shall we be judged then?), we’re called to forgive. Let the Divine Master Who knows all judge according to His infinite just & merciful love.

The Longest Yard

Published by Melody under Movie Reviews or Related

It’d be honest to say that I love black movies… I love the whole “we are so much cooler than thou” attitude, love the cars, love the bling, love the music (oh yeah!) and I so totally loved this movie.

Adam Sandler is not one of favorite actors. But he honestly outdid himself in this movie. This ensemble cast includes the lovable Chris Rock, the ageless Burt Reynolds, the tres cool Nelly and tons of others. Courtney Cox starts off the movie with an amazing little cameo - and it’s all upwards from there…

The movie’s about an ex-football star (Sandler) who was thrown off the AFL for fixing a game and who through various other nefarious deeds (& I really loved these!!) lands himself in the middle of a very weird prison, weirder guards & the wisest-cracking criminals in the movies.

This movie’s great - and not only if you understand black humor - the entire theatre were rolling on the floor laughing out loud.

Must see!

Mumbai, Post Midnight

Watch this blog, am gonna do more of these “Mumbai, Post Midnight” posts!!

I just love this city. Been born & brought up here & am so totally the city girl… what would I do if there was no traffic on the road & jam packed places to be in post midnight??!

And I ain’t just talking about the clubs…! Ate FABULOUS subs @ Subway (Linking Road) (where else?) which is open until 12.30 every night. After that headed down to the Mocha at Juhu which is open until 2am daily. It was my first time there (usually do the Mocha at Bandra) and it was pretty nice.

The ambience is pretty much the same as the Bandra one, Arabian-esq with lounge music and red caps everywhere… Think the crowd is better at the Bandra place (lots of more pyts & pseud at Bandra & hey, that’s so me, right ;) ) - but as long as you’re with a bunch of great friends (never mind the one who didn’t allow us to drive down to Lonavala in the night) you’ll have a great time…

Here’s to a night of breakdowns, refills, expresso shots, pink bulls and lots of other crap…

Lemon Grass

Published by Melody under Restaurant Reviews

Ate at Lemon Grass today. Have eaten here about twice before & have loved the food each time. Today was no different.

Enjoyed the Korean Fried Rice, Thai Chicken in a Green Curry & best of all the Crispy Lamb (yummy!!)

The prices are also very decent, the rice was INR 80 and the dishes are average INR 180. Dessert was a sinful slice of ‘blah’ (I forgot the name… yes, I’m a brilliant restaurant reviewer!) - whiteish cakey thingy with purplish hot syrupy thingy flowing out of it … ahhhh….

The only problem with Lemon Grass - as with all the other places on the block- is the fact that they all are open out to the road. And being the busy road that it is, it’s continous honking & loud screeching and I find that enough to kill the best appetite.

My advice, buy a good pair of earplugs & try out Lemon Grass, def. worth it!

LiveStrong - Funding or Fashion?

Lance Armstrong is a retired American professional road racing cyclist who is most famous for recovering from testicular cancer & subsequently winning the Tour de France a record seven consecutive times—1999 to 2005!

During the summer of 2004, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (with initial funding from Nike), developed the Livestrong wristband. The LiveStrong band is ONLY yellow & is part of the Wear Yellow Live Strong educational program, intended to support cancer victims and survivors and to raise awareness about cancer.

The band became an instant hit in the USA and by May of this year (2005) over 50 million Livestrong wristbands have been sold - and since each band symbolises a dollar donated to cancer research, it’s $ 50 million raised for cancer research by the LiveStrong Foundation in just a year.

So far so good.

A couple of months ago a friend of mine came back from holidaying in the States. He had on him the LiveStrong band & told me a little about what it was about. He had lost his dad to cancer and knowing it was a sensitive topic, I didn’t ask him any more details.

However a few weeks after that another friend came back from the States & he was wearing multiple colored bands - black, white, pink….

I didn’t ask him what they were about but the way he changed bands with his clothes led me to feel it was more about fashion to him than an outward sign of support to something he believed in supporting.

Last Saturday when I went shopping in South Mumbai, I saw tons of “carts” on the streets of Colaba selling bands of every possible color - at prices like INR 20 (if you know Colaba, that mean they’d even sell them for 10). Obviously they were not the real deal. Obviously none of that INR 10 is reaching the LiveStrong Cancer research foundation.

The next day Sunday, I went out with a friend who’s down from the UK. He too was wearing many multiple colored bands. I begged him to take them off - if you’re not supporting the causes they’re endorsing, don’t wear them. He didn’t listen to me - until we saw (and I say this in the nicest way, since I’m a mac myself) the most mac women (complete with stiched floral blouse & black pleated skirt) also wearing an assortment of bands on their hands.

Off came all the bands.

Here’s my take on it all - DON’T wear the bands as a fashion statement just because they’re cool in the States… (why the heck we Indians think ape-ing the States is cool anyway is beyond me). If you’re wearing the bands just as a fashion statement, then you’re making a mockery of a cause that is important to many people.

If you truly feel led to support the cause, buy the band DIRECTLY from the LiveStrong foundation and you can be sure that your money will actually go towards cancer research.

And then & only then will wearing that band on your hand make any sense.
