Been a while since I last went out (Monday’s Movie Plan of seeing XXX2 didn’t happen either) so I convinced dear Khush (ok fine, I forced him) to take me out to dinner.
Since neither of us were feeling like dressing up for the occasion, we decided to just maybe just go to a Subway/McDonald-esq place for a quick bite [I suspect K also wanted to get rid of me asap].
Our casual clothes inspired me to suggest Goa Portuguesa, which as it turned out, neither of us had been to before.
The decor of the place was typically Goan & as such very laid back & simple. Red brick walls, Mario Miranda-ish (or were actually they his?) table mats added to the Goan air.
The food was great! It’s pretty expensive if you compare it with prices of the same stuff in Goa, but for a Bbay restaurant it’s decent. The quantities were good & definetely quality wise, we were both very pleased.
Some thing else which added to the Goa atmosphere & which Khush simply loved
, were the men dressed up in shiny red shirts (& they were frilly too!!) & Goan hats who were going from table to table with guitar & song. The enthu (!!) old man who came to our table was tres cute!! Worth the experience if only for this guy!!!
Here’s a diag to help you imagine the scene; do substitute the girl with the brick on the balcony with Khush:

The only thing that irritated me about the place was the really shameless (so me thinks) self-promotion of owner Dr. Suhas Awchat (yeah, now I’m doing it too). I can understand one wanting to promote one’s restaurant, but this guy seems just all about himself. His name was on the table mats, we had a Maitre D’ come tell us about him (with a lil of the restaurant on the side) & finally when we were about to leave, there was a feedback form, with - get this - his picture on it!!! If that wasn’t bad enough, the picture part of the form was torn off & handed back to us … yes, I left it on the table.
Searched online & found out that the restaurant has it’s own website (I’m very impressed) … but unfortunately, you enter only to be hit on the face with the dude’s Picture & the following caption:
Multifaceted Udyogshree
Dr. Suhas Awchat
MD FRSH (UK)
(A Qualified physician, Journalist, Sportsman, Actor, Model and Recipient of THE PRESIDENT’S MEDAL as special officer Maharashtra Ratna Awardee)
HELP!!!! ![]()
Anyway, whatever be said about the man (& mostly by himself!!), the food is great & the place is definetely worth a visit, even if like me you’re used to eating Goan food at home & in Goa itself ![]()
