FINALLY. Yes, finally. It’s over. The last wedding of the year is finally over… so what if it’s already New Year’s Eve, and so what if January is filled with weddings too? At least we’re done with them for THIS year. It’s mentally soothing.

It started with 10,000. And then what seemed to be a terrible disaster turned out to be more and more unbelievably terrible as the hours turned to days and the numbers increased. Everyday. Everytime we heard the news. 22,000. 24,000. 40,000. 55,000. 60,000.
Is it going to stop?

Helen Wachs: “I can’t describe carrying a moaning person who just saw his girlfriend killed down a hill in the middle of the night,” the e-mail said. “I saw more bodies than I care to report. The hotel where we were staying is mostly gone. We lost everything, but our lives.”
Basab Bagchi: “I was about to take a boat ride with my wife and had left my eight-year-old son in the pool adjacent to the sea when I suddenly felt the seawater rising. We ran towards the hotel and yelled to my son to get out of the pool. In a flash I lifted him up and ran towards the staircase. The wave hit us but still I managed to get to the first floor. My wife had managed to climb the diving board in the swimming pool and when the water started rising she floated up and got hold of a tree and was clinging to it for dear life. Suddenly the next wave came. It was more intense and it was a nerve-wrecking scene as we shouted to her to hold on tightly. She was shouting back that the tree might collapse. Anyhow, the water started receding and we rescued her and got, leaving all our belongings other than our Indian passports.”

Just heard about the earthquake and the tsunamis that ensued. Got this pic of Sumatra (the epicenter of the quake) online. It was titled “The Dream Island”. Some dream huh? The nightmare-esq stories that are coming out of survivors are heart wrenching.
On the positive side, the youth whom we dropped off for Chennai (also affected by the Tsunamis) seem to be all ok.
Sumatra Before the Disaster:

Got this picture from the CNN Website. It shows a devasted Christian area in Sri Lanka:

“A tsunami is a giant wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption…
Energy from the quake creates the initial wave, which splits into two — one wave moves out into the ocean while the other heads toward the shore. Most tsunamis do not create giant breaking waves on shore. Instead, they generate very fast and strong tides that make sea level rise quickly.”

Went for Tony & Ya Ling’s Nuptials today. Ya Ling is from China and was one of the sweetest looking brides of the season. A real doll.
I’ve always had a thing for chinks… Loved the (coffee?) ad which had this college-going-type chinky guy looking out of his window longing to go home for the holiday while “Blue Bayou” played in the background… “I’m going back someday, come what may….that familiar sunrise with sleepy eyes, how happy I’ll be.” Yes, indeed. [ahhh]
Maybe one day I’ll marry a chink
hmmm?
The reception was at Sea Princess hotel. From there it was off to The Orchid for Kriselle’s First Holy Communion party. Had a lovely time. Got a chance to dance with my dad & catch up with one of my favourite uncles

Christmas was very well spent with family (the only correct thing to do, in my opinion!)
Had luch at Day’s with Sons playing Mrs Claus (see pic above!) & generously distributing all the gifts
Ate till we could not eat anymore. TOTALLY stuffed, even more than the turkey
In the evening, went along with Nathan to drop off the 30 or so youth who were off to a youth convention at Chennai. Was great fun meeting up with them all & making sure they got on the right train & right compartment! Oh such confusion! Sean even msged me that he was off the train minutes after the train left… naughty naughty boys…
Night was off to Sher & Priya’s for a quite home dinner. Planned to go to Indigo & Lush following but didn’t. All in all, a FULL day.
May you have a blessed Christmas.

Participated in one of the BEST Holy Masses ever! It was really soo great!
Went with Mum & Dad (feels kinda weird without Sim).. We reached a little before Mass actually began - which means usually there wouldn’t have been place to sit (ppl go well in advance for High Masses here). Anyway, we were still blessed enough to get almost front row seats (fifth from the front) on the extreme right aisle.

All the other guys are probably biting their fingers off.. and all the girls all going “ooooohhhhh ahhhhhhh”. I definetely was..
